Dark patches are one of the most common reasons people visit a skin clinic. The treatment that works depends entirely on which type you have.
Sun tanning
Even darkening on sun-exposed areas, usually fading over weeks with sun protection and gentle exfoliation.
Melasma
Symmetrical brown-grey patches on cheeks, forehead or upper lip, often linked to hormones and sun. It is chronic, so it is controlled rather than "removed".
Post-inflammatory pigmentation
Dark marks left after acne, injury or irritation. They fade faster once the underlying acne is controlled.
How treatment differs
Peels, prescription creams and laser all have a place, but in different combinations. Every plan includes daily broad-spectrum sunscreen — without it, no treatment lasts.
