Delhi is one of the busiest hair transplant markets in the country. That is good news for choice and bad news for clarity: two clinics a few kilometres apart can quote figures that differ by more than double for the same head. This guide walks through the decisions in the order you will actually face them.
Step 1: Confirm a transplant is the right answer
A transplant moves permanent hair from the back of your head to areas that have stopped producing hair. It does not fix shedding caused by thyroid problems, low iron, stress or a recent illness. A good first consultation includes a trichoscopy scan, a donor density count and, where needed, blood tests. If the cause is medical, treating it first can save you surgery altogether.
Step 2: Choose the clinic, not the technique name
FUE, DHI and Sapphire FUE are all proven methods. The bigger differences between clinics are:
- Who places the grafts — the doctor, or technicians while the doctor supervises.
- Where it happens — a hospital-grade operation theatre with monitored vitals, or a clinic room.
- Graft handling — chilled holding solution and short out-of-body time protect survival.
- Written pricing — a final figure before you pay, with everything included.
- Follow-up — scheduled reviews for at least a year.
Ask every clinic for these answers in writing. At HRG Skin and Hair Clinic in Sector 11, Rohini, they are part of the free consultation.
Step 3: Understand what decides the cost
The main driver is the number of grafts you need — most men need between 1,800 and 3,500. Technique, the surgical setup and what the package includes make up the rest. Very low per-graft rates often leave out the operating theatre, medicines, PRP or follow-up. No-cost EMI is widely available, so compare the total and the inclusions rather than the headline rate.
Step 4: Plan the procedure day and recovery
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia and usually takes six to eight hours with breaks. You go home the same evening. Expect mild swelling for two or three days, small scabs that fall away within ten days, and a return to desk work in about a week.
Step 5: Be patient with the growth timeline
Transplanted hairs shed in the first month — this is normal. New growth starts around month three or four, is visible to others by month six and reaches full thickness at ten to twelve months. Clinics that photograph you at each review let you see progress objectively.
Where patients come from
Rohini is easy to reach from across Delhi via the Red Line metro and the Outer Ring Road. Patients regularly travel from Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Model Town, Dwarka, Janakpuri, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Sonipat, and outstation patients usually plan a three-day visit.
